Spiritual Retreat: Conducting Transactions for Necessities
Practical Laws of Islam as per the teachings of Ayatullah Sistani
Ruling 1737
Whenever a muʿtakif is compelled to conduct a transaction to procure food and drink or other necessary items, and he cannot find someone else who is not a muʿtakif to do this on his behalf by way of agency (wikālah), and it is not possible for him to procure the items mentioned above without conducting a transaction – for example, by way of receiving them as a gift or borrowing them – in such a case, there is no problem in him conducting the transaction.
