Purity: Is Wudūʾ Mustaḥabb on Its Own and Valid Before Prayer Time?

English:

Question #121

Is wuḍū’ by itself mustaḥabb? And is it valid to perform wuḍū’ for the sake of nearness to Allah before the time of prayer arrives and then to offer the prayer with that wuḍū’?

Answer #121

Doing wuḍū’ for the sake of being in a state of purity is mustaḥabb and preferable in Islamic law and it is permissible to perform prayer with a mustaḥabb wuḍū’.

- Imam Khamenei, Practical Laws of Islam, Rules of Wuḍū’
