Prayer: Replying to the Salaam of a Woman or Non-Mumayyiz Child
Practical Laws of Islam as per the teachings of Ayatullah Sistani
Ruling 1127
If a woman or a man who is neither a maḥram nor a mumayyiz child – i.e. a child who is able to discern between right and wrong – says salām to a person who is performing prayers, that person must reply. If a woman greets him with the words ‘salāmun ʿalayka’, he can reply ‘salāmun ʿalayki’, i.e. with a kasrah on the kāf.
