What is the ruling in the matter of musical instruments used by groups of chanting composed of school students overseen by the department of education and culture?
Answer #1156:
Musical instruments which, according to the common view, are of dual — ḥalāl and ḥarām — purpose, can be used in a non-lahwī manner for lawful purposes so that it does not deviate one from the way of Allah. Instruments, which the common view regards as special to the production of lahwī deviating music, are not permissible to use.
